Happy July 4! Independence Day in the USA
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Interesting Info, Holidays, JanPolk.com
Posted by: site admin @ 10:00 pm

July 4 is a day to remind us that we fought to be free of

a crushing, harsh government that does not respect

individual rights and the well being of all of our people.

America
is only as strong as her people. We elect our leaders

from among ourselves yet we can stand without leaders if

necessary.  We as
individuals decide how honorable and

self-reliant we will each be.    Although we have a civic duty to

behave in an honorable and civilized manner, we choose to do

this because we want to.
Government cannot mandate or

enforce this aspect of our lives.

Proud Patriots and Legal Immigrants are the ones who

appreciate our country the most  and
value our  rule of law

which makes civilized society available to all. They know

what it is like elsewhere and do not take our freedoms for

granted.  The bigger
the government, the more freedoms we

must give up.

We speak English to show respect to our country.  We

acknowledge God as our Creator.  We expect residents who

live here to speak English as a sign of appreciation and
respect

to be able to live
here. We expect our leaders to defend our

Constitution, our laws, and our freedoms.  We expect our citizens

to do the same.  These
are our common bonds.

Keep vigilant America!  Watch what our leaders say versus what

they do. If America
falls it is because our people are no longer

honorable, civilized, law abiding citizens in all walks of
life, including

big business and government. When only monetary gains determine

our actions, and honor and respect for each other are no
longer valued,

we will no longer be able to recover. High interest rates on

multi-trillion dollars of debt will keep us from being free.

United We Stand – Divided We Fall

May God continue to Bless America

Happy July 4!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG

OF THE UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA

AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS,

ONE NATION UNDER GOD,

INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY
AND

JUSTICE FOR ALL!

No, freedom isn’t free and it won’t last long if

you neglect your civic duties and take your

freedoms for granted.

May God Bless Our Troops and those who gave

their lives for our country.

When you read this, please stop for a moment

And Say a Prayer for our servicemen, past and present.

Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier,

Prayer is the very best One.
Respect and thanks

to those who are still serving would be appreciated.

Remembering those who have fallen, is a way to show

our respect.

Remember, our country is only as honorable and strong

as its people.  Our
soldiers  are volunteers and come from

among our citizens. Our government elected officials are

elected from among our citizens. Each of us plays an important

part in working together for
good of all.

We have the freedom to do most anything we want.

We also have a civic duty to behave in a civilized

manner and to be
respectful to each other.

We have these freedoms because we are honorable,
self-reliant,

civilized people  who
believe in personal responsibility for our own

actions and who can still work together even if our govern-

ment officials don’t show up immediately in times of
emergencies.

United We Stand – Divided We Fall.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

The values of our country are recorded in our book,

“A Year of Good Manners” by Margery Sinclair and Jan Polk.

These are values which must be taught.  They are best taught

by parents.  When people hear the title, they say this should

be taught in our schools!  No, these values should be taught

at home and then we should expect to see them everywhere

including our schools, our movies, our music and especially

in our leaders.  They originate in our homes.  We all have

a civic duty to know these values.

Where are our leaders?
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Interesting Info, Holidays, JanPolk.com
Posted by: site admin @ 2:11 pm

Instead of asking where are our leaders?

Ask:

Where is my Sacred Honor?

Where is my Self Respect?

Where is my respect for fellow Law Abiding Citizens?

What are my Civic Duties?

Why are civilized, law abiding people declining in number?

Think about it!  Respect
for Self and the Rule of Law, Sacred Honor, and

Civilized Manners are the backbone of our country.  These qualities are

disappearing from our nation.  When people scoff and laugh in the face of

 honorable, civilized,
law abiding citizens, government gets bigger, taxes

get higher, society becomes more violent.

People complain:  “ I
don’t have time to teach Sacred Honor, Respect and

Manners. “

Answer:

Make time.  These are
the most important qualities required to live as

free people.

We The People elect our government officials from among
ourselves.  We

cannot expect more of them than we expect of ourselves.
Elect only honorable people.  Sacred
Honor supersedes experience.  They won’t
look you in the eye   and lie to your
face.

How disgusting is it to have Congressmen and Senators pass a
health care bill they did not read; one that expanded the government without
addressing the major problems to start with.
They will look you in the eye and tell you it is good for the country
but you and your grandchildren two or three

generations unborn will have to pay for it starting
now.  It is very hard to

get ahead when you are starting out in a hole.

Government is too big.
Taxes are too high.  What can We
The People do right now?

For starters, Honorable, civilized, law abiding people will
not lie, cheat or steal even

when the opportunity presents itself.   Somehow We The People have given ourselves

permission to be less than honorable people.  This is a personal decision that each of us
make.  Each of us decides to what
standard we will hold our self..

There is never, ever any honorable reason to lie, cheat or
steal.  We The People must willingly hold
ourselves to a higher standard.

The illegal drug market would dry up in an instant

if people did not give themselves permission to break the
law and use illegal drugs.

Just because you have money, it is still not acceptable to
use illegal drugs.

Just because you have no money, does not mean you are
relieved of your

civic duty to be an honorable, civilized, law abiding
citizen.

Health care costs

would drop if people did not give themselves permission to
abuse drugs, alcohol,

tobacco, self, children, and each other.  Health care costs would drop if people

were honorable and did not think it is ok to rip off the
government …..or anyone

 for that matter.

 Domestic violence

would drop drastically if each of us would treat the other
with respect

 One of the first tips
to civilized life is to “maintain composure” when displeased.

You have given yourself permission to explode for any reason
and to be rude:  Unacceptable behavior.

 No reason justifies
uncivilized behavior.  It takes practice
to behave in an honorable, civilized manner.

Poverty does not have to be mean, violent, and uncivilized.

Only the people living in those circumstances can change
that by becoming honorable,

civilized, law-abiding citizens.  Behavior to hold yourself to a higher
standard is a

personal choice.  The
government cannot do this for you.

Our common bond is We ALL want to be treated with respect.

We ALL have a civic duty to behave in an honorable,
civilized, law abiding manner.

We The People can make drastic changes immediately without
government mandates or

higher taxes. We The People can give back to our families,
our communities, and our country

just by being honorable, civilized, law abiding
citizens.    We The People must take our
freedoms

and civic duties seriously, especially on election day.

It is easy to hold yourself to a higher standard when you
know how.

“A Year of Good Manners” by Margery Sinclair and Jan
Polk  ($27.95) offers

365 common, everyday courtesies and the reasons to use them
written by Margery Sinclair.

.Jan Polk’s GAFC Floral images are reminders to treat
yourself with respect and expect others to treat you the same way.

This information would cost hundreds of dollars to learn it
from other sources.

A sincere Thank You to all honorable, civilized, law abiding
citizens.

Celebrate L.A.C. Day - April 15 - Law Abiding Citizen Day
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Interesting Info, Holidays, JanPolk.com
Posted by: site admin @ 9:08 pm

On April 15, celebrate by thanking another person for

being a Law Abiding Citizen.   Honorable Law Abiding Citizens

are the backbone of the United States of America.

We carry on the torch of our founding fathers who gave up
everything

for Sacred Honor and the Rule of Law by We The People.

Law Abiding Citizens

respect themselves and their fellow citizens.  They are honorable and  self-reliant,

they take personal responsible for their  own actions, work hard, and

give back to their families, communities, and country just
by being

honorable, civilized, law-abiding citizens.  They can function even if the government is
not there.

We all have a civic duty to behave as honorable, civilized,

law-abiding people.

Everything boils down to personal choice.  It is a personal choice to be

the person you are.
It is not always easy and sometimes it takes practice

to hold yourself to a higher standard.

L.A.C. Day is a day to celebrate how much we are alike and a
day to celebrate

our American Heritage, which we all have, if we are  citizens of the USA.

All heritages are to be respected and today we celebrate our
American Heritage.

Show your respect to our country by speaking English. when
in the United States of
America
.

None of us would be here without the aid of the other.  We are a nation of many

cultures, yet we stand United for the freedom of all.   The United States of

America
is not perfect but it is still the Greatest Nation on Earth and this is

because the majority of her people are Honorable, Civilized,

 Law Abiding Citizens.

Thank YOU for being an honorable, civilized, Law Abiding
Citizen!

On April 15, Send an email to a fellow L.A.C and thank them.

Get a Call from Santa!
Filed under: General, Interesting Info, Holidays, JanPolk.com
Posted by: site admin @ 12:11 pm

This holiday season, Cincinnati Bell will send a personalized phone call from Santa Claus to your good little boy or girl. In the spirit of giving, the call will be FREE of charge to the following area codes within the Cincinnati, OH area:   513,  859,  812,  937

With the holidays fast approaching, children everywhere are excited for Santa Claus to arrive. So what could be better than a personalized phone call from Kris Kringle himself?

Give any child a special holiday treat this year when they hear Santa on the phone. The call shows up as coming from the North Pole, so your child will “know it’s real.” And Santa actually says the child’s first name during the message, like it was meant just for them.

You can reserve a call in no time:

1. Visit the Call from Santa Website

2. Choose one of four different messages

3. Select from hundreds of boys’ and girls’ names

4. Decide when you want the call to be made

And the call is free, as our way of saying thank you and Happy Holidays.

Thank you Veterans for all you do in the name of freedom!  They fought as proud Americans in the name of God.We are here because our Veterans are here.  They are willing to put their life on the line for our freedoms.  A way to repay each Veteran, is to thank them by being an honorable, civilized,  self-governed, law abiding person.  Veterans belive in We The People being free people which means we each must be self-reliant, self-governed, hard working, honorable people who respect life and each other.   They have fought for our freedom and the right to be independent without Government being in every aspect of our lives.  Don’t be so willing to give up the freedoms that our Veterans have worked so hard to maintain.  God Bless our Veterans and Thank You.

One way to thank a Veteran is to give up illegal drugs.  Illegal drug money is what is funding our terrorist enemies.

Wednesday, November 11 is Veterans Day. Celebrate by Thanking a Veteran.
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Interesting Info, Holidays, JanPolk.com
Posted by: site admin @ 11:38 am

We celebrate the important purpose of Veterans Day:

A celebration to honor   America’s veterans for their

patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve

and sacrifice for the common good.

Some details about our Our Nation’s Veterans:

Of the 25 million veterans currently alive, nearly three

of every four served during a war or an official period

of hostility. About a quarter of the nation’s population –

approximately 70 million people — are potentially eligible

for VA benefits and services because they are

veterans, family members or survivors of veterans.

The above information is taken from this website:

http://www1.va.gov/opa/vetsday/vetdayhistory.asp

Our veterans are trained to be the very best and

strongest of warriors.  They know about honor, loyalty,

and following the rules of the military and the chain

of command. They  know about sacrifice and working

as a team.

When they come back home and retire from military life,

they have to relearn the rules of civilized society.  Military

rules do not always blend with civilized society’s rules.

Conflict occurs within families, depression develops,

divorce is a possibility.  Our veterans are still our heroes.

We all want to be treated with respect, veterans or not.

Our book, “A Year of Good Manners” by Margery Sinclair

and Jan Polk ($27.95)  lists 365 common everyday

courtesies.  Peacefulness and Common sense develop as a

 result of  knowing this information.

Jan Polk’s GAFC “respect series” floral images remind you  to treat  yourself with respect.  Margery Sinclair’s words tell you how to treat  others with respect and why.

Following are just a few of the tips from our 180 page book.  If you find this information helpful, you will want to read all 365 tips.   AYOGM can be purchased ($27.95 ea.) at my website  www.ayearofgoodmanners.com

Please let me know if you are a veteran.  Thank you for your service.

January 6   A knowledge of etiquette is the road to good

manners. Behave decently to others, show consideration when  there is conflict, and maintain composure when displeased.  Knowing etiquette makes you feel relaxed and confident.

February 5  Ladies don’t always go first.  A gentleman leads the way to the dance floor.  He also gets into the back seat of a  taxi first and slides across to the far side so the lady can sit down gracefully.  He descends a narrow staircase first, and precedes her into a revolving door to get it started.

March 24  Never discount the “likeability factor.”  When people like you, partly because of your good manners, they are more likely to give you a break in other areas.  A likeable person can be charmingly eccentric; an unlikeable person just seems weird.

March 26  Say “Good Morning” to all members of the family seen before noon.  Use a pleasant voice.  It’s not just the words.  It’s also the music.  The same words can sound sincere or sarcastic, depending on your tone of voice.

May 12  The drill for meeting new people is easy:  stand up straight, smile, look at their eyes, shake hands, say hello, and give your name. It helps to know what is expected.  Either men or women can extend their hand first.

May 24  Music outdoors can quickly become a public nuisance.  Your radio can instantly upset a neighbor who wants to read, paint, or meditate. Even when musical tastes are in agreement, the problem is volume. Noise heard outside the property where it originates is usually too loud.

October 31  Good manners are the great equalizer.  They apply to everyone, are free and available to all.  They are the opposite of being  elitist, arbitrary, and artificial.  When society refuses to obey the  practical rules of etiquette that govern behavior, rudeness and thoughtlessness will prevail.

Dec 1  True sportsmanship requires you to control your temper.  Keep your mind on the game, not on your feelings.  Don’t complain of  illness after losing, or criticize other players.  Be a gracious winner.

If you can’t take sports with good will, you should

avoid them.

Dec 23  Replace “but” with “and” in your conservations.  If you  say, “You are doing a good job, but…….”  they only remember the second half of your sentence.  For a more positive effect try, “I love you, and  I wish you had better table manners.”

Dec 24  Always thank the person who holds the door for you.  This action has nothing to do the male/female rolls.  Whoever gets to the door first opens it for the next person.  Gender also doesn’t count on elevators; the person nearest the door exists first.

Dec 30  Ladies and gentlemen expect to be treated with respect, and that is what they give and get back.  Politeness is an attitude – about feeling good, looking good, and doing good.  Hold yourself to a higher standard.

Dec 31  Showing respect for yourself and others allows you to receive the respect you deserve.

Halloween is coming - October 31
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Interesting Info, Holidays
Posted by: site admin @ 12:01 pm

Halloween is a time for fun.  It is also a time to remain respectful as well as frightful.

Humor can put people at ease or hurt their feelings.  Analyze your motives for teasing.  Don’t try to cover an insult with, “I was only joking!” (bet you can put a name to someone who said this)  Express your sense of humor with a kind heart.  It’s only funny if everyone is laughing.

Remember, We The People, decide what is best for our nation.   No matter what the current costumes are, or what the teenagers want to wear, the adults are in charge and must lead by example.  You make the decisions.  Not the retailers nor the movies.

Respectful behavior says avoid the “too-toos” in your clothing for business and social life: too low-cut, too short, too transparent, too tight, too revealing.  As Hollywood designer Edith Head said, “Your clothes should be tight enough to show you’re a woman, and loose enough to show you’re a lady.”

Above tips brought to you by “A Year of Good Manners” by Margery Sinclair and Jan Polk

Stay Safe and take care of yourself……the government cannot do it for you……they can only come in and pick up the pieces.
We say throw  a Halloween Party and skip the trick or treating.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Fourth of July - Independence Day
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Holidays

Today is a day to celebrate our Independence and our freedoms.  Today is also a reminder that we should not be dependent on the government.  The government should be dependent on We The People.

The United States of American became the richest, most powerful, most self-sufficient republic in history with the highest standard of living any nation has ever achieved because of the sacrifices by We The People.

We are a beacon of hope to all oppressed people throughout the world longing for the possibility of escaping terrorists and tyrants and fulfilling unlimited dreams which are possible for anyone who legally comes to the United States of America and is willing to assimilate, unite, and work hard to achieve their unlimited dreams, the American Dream.

The American Dream is not based on skin color…..it is based on a civilized society  and freedom for all, the rule of law, honor, fairness, hard work,  respect for life and trust in God.–One Nation Standing United.  In the past, everyone wanted to speak English, our common bond in the United States of America.  Our country has never been perfect but we have always strived to be better.  We are a melting pot.  There is not one nationality that has not had a hard time or been abused at some point during our history yet we have always managed to overcome our hardships.  We did it by working together.  No group has overcome any hardship on their own.  It always takes a majority working together for the good of all…..that means all colors, nationalities, and religions of people working together.   If you are looking for hate you can find it, but you can also find the good if you are looking for it.

English spread throughout the world because everyone wanted a part of the unlimited American Dream.    The disappearing English language is a sign  the American dream is flickering and starting to dim..  Our freedoms are disappearing.  People are willingly giving them up….which is a mystery to me.      Our government is getting bigger and bigger and apologizing for our greatness in the past.

Our freedoms are not free.  They were paid for with blood and sacrifice by previous generations so that future generations could be free from tyrants and oppressive governments.  Somewhere along the line, in the generous sharing of the wealth, non-working people have become dependent on the government and come to believe they are entitled to something they haven’t earned.   There are groups who do their best to have use believe that service, honor, and duty to country and God are not good things.  That faith in God is not a good thing.   We all have a civic duty to be civilized, honorable, educated, law-abiding citizens.  It is a way to give back something to your country.

When civility in society breaks down, corruption, greed, and lawlessness will prevail. We will have Bernie Madofs, government owned car companies, government owned banks and government owned health care. We The People need to prevail as civilized citizens,  as private industry and free markets, not as the largest government in the world.   Change is good but not at the expense of our core values which made the United States of America the richest, most powerful, most self-sufficient republic in history with the highest standard of living any nation has ever achieved.  We want American jobs in order to remain independent.  We want tax laws to encourage companies to come to our country, not to force them to leave our country and take our jobs with them.

Keep in mind, the government has no money!!!…….they get it from us, the tax paying citizen, who in the past has willingly given it because we elected Congressmen and Senators to represent us.  When the government starts taking the money with the intent of redistributing it as they see fit, are we really free?  When the government starts spending the money of two or three generations, who have not even been born yet, will they be free? Anyone who is dependent on someone else is not free. Anyone who is dependent on the government is not free.  The American Dream is no longer what ever you want it to be.  It has been capped at less than $200,000 because the government thinks it knows how to spend our money better than we know how to spend it our self.   Our government officials are elected from among ourselves.  We cannot expect more from them than we expect from ourselves.  We cannot allow corruption, greed, and lawlessness to prevail in government nor in ourselves.  We need to teach our young at an early age to be decent, civilized, honorable, educated, respectful law-abiding citizens.  We do this by word and deed….by setting a good example for them to follow.  We do our children a favor by requiring more of them. When you are in public, you are expected to behave in a civilized manner.

May God Bless America on July 4 — Independence Day

Think things through.  Make your own decisions.  I don’t think we need term limits as we have the power to vote out anyone we don’t want in office.  It is up to We The People to take charge.

For the price $27.95, our calendar book “A Year of Good Manners” by Margery Sinclair and Jan Polk will tell you how to behave in a civilized manner and why you would want to.  It is easy to hold yourself to a higher standard when you know how.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Holidays

Each and every Dad decides what kind of Dad he will be.  If you are being honored by your children today, congratulations for raising them to feel respected, valued, and loved.   They feel this way, not because you are their friend, or because you showered them with many things,  but because you are a true Father that cares about your children.–a much more important  and valuable position in your child’s life than any friend could be.  They return what they learn.

“Teaching manners to children is the kindest thing you can do for them. “

……………………………………. Margery Sinclair

“I came to understand that the hole a man leaves when he abandons his responsibility to his children is one that no government can fill.”………………………………  President Barack Obama

Good manners are the great equalizer.  They apply to everyone, are free, and available to all.  They are the opposite of being elitist, arbitrary, and artificial.  When society refuses to obey the practical rules of etiquette that govern behavior, rudeness and thoughtlessness will prevail.  The government cannot do this for us….it is a personal choice to be a civilized person and participate in the American Dream.

It is easy to hold yourself to a higher standard when you know how. We tell you how and why! The gift that keeps on giving:
