Fantastic Video by Dave Bezaire of Glacier Calving and Shooters in Alaska!

My fellow Ohio Plein Air Society artist friend Susie Havens-Bezaire and her husband Dave are having a great adventure traveling, painting and photographing Alaska this summer. If you have been to Alaska, you will want to visit their blog:  http://bezaires.com/blog/     Scroll down to their June 9 entry and look at their video.   It is a spectacular sight to see their condensed version of 40 minutes of Dawes Glacier calvings and shooters in the Endicott Fjord.  WOW! Currently, the weather in June  ranges from 28 to 60 degrees in Alaska.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Holidays

Each and every Dad decides what kind of Dad he will be.  If you are being honored by your children today, congratulations for raising them to feel respected, valued, and loved.   They feel this way, not because you are their friend, or because you showered them with many things,  but because you are a true Father that cares about your children.–a much more important  and valuable position in your child’s life than any friend could be.  They return what they learn.

“Teaching manners to children is the kindest thing you can do for them. “

……………………………………. Margery Sinclair

“I came to understand that the hole a man leaves when he abandons his responsibility to his children is one that no government can fill.”………………………………  President Barack Obama

Good manners are the great equalizer.  They apply to everyone, are free, and available to all.  They are the opposite of being elitist, arbitrary, and artificial.  When society refuses to obey the practical rules of etiquette that govern behavior, rudeness and thoughtlessness will prevail.  The government cannot do this for us….it is a personal choice to be a civilized person and participate in the American Dream.

It is easy to hold yourself to a higher standard when you know how. We tell you how and why! The gift that keeps on giving:

Should David Letterman apologize?
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Interesting Info
Posted by: site admin @ 8:28 am

Should David Letterman apologize since he seems to think

getting young girls “knocked up” is funny (in reference to

Gov. Sarah Palin and her daughter at a NYC baseball game

June 2009)?

Civilized society means just that.  You should show respect  to

each other and when you cross the line you should apologize sincerely

not just make excuses for your bad behavior.

Not only is it a bad reflection on him, and you if you thought it was funny,

think how his mother must feel not to mention young impressionable girls

and boys.

If David had read our book “A Year of Good Manners”

by Margery Sinclair and Jan Polk he would have discovered:

August 24 tip:

Humor can put people at ease or hurt their feelings.

Analyze your motives for teasing.

Don’t try to cover an insult with “I was only joking!”

Express your sense of humor with a kind heart.

It’s only funny if everyone is laughing.

May 31 tip:

A prompt sincere apology is an art.  It should acknowledge the

inappropriate behavior, accept responsibility, and express regret.

Assure the person that it won’t happen again.

Avoid a conditional apology.  “Sorry if anyone was offended.”

I suggest everyone buy a copy of  “A Year of Good Manners,”  read it,

and then send it to David Letterman with the above two passages circled.

He can then distribute the books to his audience members who also could

benefit from reading this information.  (Actually, buy two and keep one.)

Civility must be taught.  It is not information we are born with.

“A Year of Good Manners”  $27.95 can be purchased on our website
