Topsy Turvy Tomatoes as advertised.
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Interesting Info, JanPolk.com
Posted by: site admin @ 4:40 pm

We bought our Topsy Turvy at Walgreens  (convenient) and planted the tomatoes on May 28.   We picked our first tomato on Aug 18.  Nothing better than a home-grown tomato!  It was fun watching them grow and  waiting for over 24 tomatoes to
ripen.  This morning we woke up and found the whole bag laying on the ground with half the tomatoes crushed
and some limbs broken off.  The bolt that held the bag to the deck had come out entirely.  I don’t know if
it was the wind or what that caused it to fall.  Disappointing to say the least.  We hung it back up and
will wait to see if the rest of the little tomatoes will ripen.  At least we know the tomatoes that made it were
tasty.  So off to the Farmers Market I went.  We are now enjoying beautiful, big red tomatoes.  BLT’s for dinner!
YUM!

In the past, I would have been so mad and upset about losing the tomatoes.  Sometimes it seems the world is against you.
Now that I have read “A Year of Good Manners” by Margery Sinclair and Jan Polk
I am able to stay so much calmer.  Margery has written wonderful tips and the reasons to use them.  They apply to
all aspects of our civilized life style.   I sure wish I  would have been able to read this book 40 years ago.

This is the tip that applies to so many things:
January 6

“A knowledge of etiquette is the road to good manners.  Behave decently to others, show consideration when there
is conflict, and maintain composure when displeased.  Knowing etiquette makes you feel relaxed and confident.”
Margery Sinclair

No doctors fees or pills need to feel better!  Just a few encouraging words is all that is needed.

Missouri Woman Charged with Cyber Bullying Teen

Civilized people with sacred honor, respect for self and others will not lie,

cheat, or steal, even when the opportunity presents itself.   It has nothing to do

with how smart you are, age, health, wealth, skin color, education, religious or political

affiliations.   Civilized behavior must be taught.    Even if you spend all your time on

the computer, you still have a civic duty to behave decently to others.  The United

States of America became the greatest nation on earth because the majority of its people

believe in  freedom, sacred honor, self-reliance, personal responsibility, respect,  civilized behavior, the rule of law, private property,  the right to bear arms, and Trust in God.

You cannot call it “free speech” to justify bullying others and using offensive language.

You have a civic duty to behave decently to others at all times…….which includes everyone not locked up behind bars.  Offensive language is meant to be offensive and is usually received that way. In 2009, we hear offensive language everywhere everyday..  This still does not make it OK or any less offensives just because we hear it all the time..  However, it does make one think very little of the person using the offensive language.  These offensive people usually have a limited vocabulary, are usually depressed and wonder why they are not well liked. They never think it is their fault.  Avoid them.  Be civil, but avoid them.  Companies that promote products by appealing to the less civilized should be avoided by the civilized…the majority of We The People..  These companies only care about making money….they do not care about our country, our children, or our civilized way of life. Do not buy their products.   They do understand the bottom line.

Common sense develops as a result of knowing how to behave in a civilized manner.

The government cannot make you do this.  They can only come in and pick up the pieces

after the fact.  It is easy to hold yourself to a higher standard when you know how.

If you know someone who is being bullied, please have them read our book.

When you know what to expect from life, you will be able to make your own decisions and disregard any uncivilized, rude behavior.  You will not have to depend on someone

else to give you confidence and common sense or drive you to suicide..  Even if it is your own parents behaving rudely, you can still prepare yourself for a good and honorable life.

All of society’s ills can be prevented by use of respect and manners.

Health Care and Town Hall Meetings require Civilized Behavior and Sacred Honor
Filed under: General, "A Year of Good Manners", Interesting Info
Posted by: site admin @ 8:00 pm

On this blog, I will be writing about the current topic of the day and relating how it is always directly related to civilized behavior.

In our book “A Year of Good Manners” by Margery Sinclair and Jan Polk, Our January 6 tip is:

“A knowledge of etiquette is the road to good manners.  Behave decently to others, show consideration when there is conflict, and maintain composure when displeased.  Knowing etiquette makes you feel relaxed and confident.” says Margery Sinclair

In other words, when you are shouting, you are showing you are becoming uncivilized, rude, disrespectful, and out of control.  You are putting yourself at a disadvantage.

The current issue is health care and town hall meetings.

Our President cannot do anything without the confirmation of the Senate and Congress.    Remember this at election time!!!    It is time to vote the incumbents out, regardless of party!!!

These problems are over 25 years old!  Most people like their own Senator or Representative.  It is time for the American people to do what they know is best for the country…..not just their own little piece of the pie.     We don’t need term limits (another freedom willingly given up); we do need We The People to live up to our civic duty to be involved in our government and know what we are doing.

Let’s start the ball rolling now.   Let’s let our elected officials know coming this November, we want  honest citizens in office who want to do what is best for the United States of America,  in particular, the hard working, honest, self-governed, law abiding citizen.    We cannot expect more from our government than we expect from ourselves.   We don’t want to change and destroy what has worked for the past 200 years, we want to improve on what we have.

The only criteria we should judge people by is:  are they civilized or uncivilized?  Are they honest, respectful people who take responsibility for their own actions and are considerate of others?  A man or woman without sacred honor cannot be trusted.

One thing that I would like to hear more about, is what are the non-taxpaying citizens and non-citizens giving back in return for all that they have received from the hard-working tax payer via government handouts.

This is the United States of America.  We should all willingly participate.  When you receive something, you should return something.  United We Stand – Divided We Fall.

One way to give something back is to be an honest, self-governed, civilized, law-abiding citizen who speaks English out of respect for our country.  If people were civilized and treated their families with respect, we would not need

a larger police department to handle domestic problems.  Civilized people make sure their kids are in schools; another reason for a smaller police department.  Civilized people take care of their own children.   If people were law-abiding citizens, there would be no demand for illegal drugs.  A $26 Billion drug fighting industry would disappear.    Supply and Demand   ——   No demand for drugs, no supply needed.  I say it is Un-American to do illegal drugs and to glorify drugs via media, movies, sports, or any other venue.   Let’s use that $26 billion for schools, health care, and roads..  Let’s demand honesty….and it starts with the face in the mirror, regardless of age, gender, skin color, religious or political affiliation.   Let’s demand more from our media and entertainment industries.  Do not purchase offensive movies, CDs, games, etc. or support sports figures who do drugs.

Another thing, we know there will be a shortage of doctors.    Let’s demand that the last thing Government cuts is aid to schools and in particular medical schools. In America, in a capitalistic society, the way to bring costs down is to flood the market with Doctors!!!  Not to cut off our supply of Doctors.   We need better schools and more doctors…… not bigger government and another layer of costly management that has nothing to do with medical treatment.

The United States of America became the Greatest Nation on Earth because its citizens were civilized, honest, loyal, hard working, self-governed, people who valued their sacred honor and the rule of law.  With this fair system, we have even elected a non-white man as President of the United States.    When “sacred honor” is a joke and only the almighty dollar is all that matters, you can say goodbye to the Greatest Nation on Earth and to your freedoms.

In the old days, people were proud that they could stand on their own two feet and would not take help unless there was no other way.  In 2009, there are too many able bodied people standing in line with their hand out crying “Where is the government?” and   “I am entitled!”   How many ads have we seen on TV that says “It didn’t cost me a penny.”?  (The government will pay for it.)

Let’s demand something back from the takers and that would be honest, civilized, law-abiding behavior.   Let’s demand something from the government and that would be honorable Senators and Representatives that at least read all the bills they vote on, lower taxes, and less government restriction on small businesses and doctors.  Let’s demand “sacred honor”  and civilized behavior in all of us.

It is easy to hold yourself to a higher standard when you know how. For $27.95 per person, we could solve a lot of society’s ills by practicing “A Year of Good Manners” by Margery Sinclair and Jan Polk.

Think about it, civilized behavior must be taught.  Civilized behavior is the only reason we can live the free life that made us the Greatest Nation on Earth.  Civilized behavior is the only reason we can gather in groups of 1,000s or more in public places. Civilized behavior allows us to attend ball games, shop in grocery stores, and attend public schools. Civilized behavior allows us to have crime free neighborhoods.   Everything in America is based on civilized behavior, sacred honor, respect for life and our fellow citizens, the rule of law and trust in God.   Our nation became the Greatest Nation on Earth because of our Christian beliefs and because of our capitalistic system.  In a capitalistic system each individual is rewarded by how hard he/she is willing to work. How honest and how civilized you behave, determines how well you will do in business.  A capitalistic system allows for unlimited dreams and rewards based on your own personal responsibility for your own actions.   A capitalistic system allows us to share the wealth.    A socialistic system “redistributes the wealth” as government sees fit whether you like it or not.  In a socialistic system, you can be beaten into submission and you have no civil rights.

A civilized person with sacred honor will not lie, cheat or steal even if the opportunity presents itself!

Today uncivilized people like to call it faking it, getting away with it, and taking it because they want it or feel entitled.

In 2009, our President’s socialistic system caps the American dream at $250,000 before they lay heavy taxes on the “wealthy.”  Keep in mind with inflation, $250,000 is not even worth $250,000.

In either system, whoever is in control will have a cushy life.  I say the person who earned the wealth should determine where it should go.  The only way to remain free to is to be a civilized, honorable, hard working, law abiding, self-governed citizen who respects the rule of law and is willing to be responsible  for your own actions.

It is easy to hold yourself to a higher standard when you know how.  You must treat yourself with respect as well as others.  Our nation depends on We The People and our sacred honor.
